You might have read recently about a politician in California who is proposing a warning label for soft drinks, saying that this will somehow help people be healthier.

This leaves us thinking to ourselves – really?

We agree that obesity is a serious and complex issue.  But how would a warning label help anyone understand that the key to a healthy, balanced and active lifestyle is balancing calories consumed from all foods with those expended through physical activity and exercise?  The short answer: it wouldn’t!

We here at Sip & Savor know that there’s a better way to empower consumers to make the choices that are right for them, and support them with information so they can do just that.  In fact, we’re already doing it with an initiative we call Clear on Calories.  We added a consumer-friendly calorie label to the front of every can, bottle and pack we produce.  We launched Clear On Calories in 2010 to support First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" anti-obesity campaign; and we are proud to say that it is in place and working.

If you contrast our proactive, collaborative approach with the often discriminatory proposals of misguided politicians, you’ll see that they’re still spinning their wheels while our programs are in place and making a real difference.  That’s the power of working together – and we’re proud to be at the table with strong thought leaders who are dedicated to positive change.
