Last month, the United States Conference of Mayors and the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America announced the six grant recipients of the 2017 2017 Childhood Obesity Prevention Awards Program. The awards went to mayors across America to support their commitment to fighting childhood obesity in their communities.

This year, Phoenix, Ariz., Mayor Greg Stanton received 2^nd place for a large city and a $25,000 grant in recognition of his “Cook-off and Fitness Challenge” program. Mayor Stanton’s new program unites nonprofit and foundation partners to implement a district-wide nutrition integrated food education and fitness program. The “Cook-off and Fitness Challenge” will introduce students from the Phoenix Union High School District to a five-part series of health-related skills to increase fruit and vegetable consumption and promote physical activity.
