Yesterday, an Institute of Medicine Committee released its phase two report on front-of-package labeling for foods and beverages. While we may not fully agree with all of the recommendations, we agree that giving people more helpful information about nutrition and healthy eating is important – especially when it comes to calories and serving size.

In fact, consumers are already seeing new calorie labels on the front of their favorite beverages.  Our industry’s Clear on Calories initiative places new calorie labels on the front of every bottle, can and pack we produce.  Labeled products started rolling out in the marketplace late last year, and implementation will be completed in early 2012. By putting calorie information right up front on our packaging, our industry is making it easier for people to make informed choices about the beverages that are best for themselves and their families.
