Added sugars have been the topic of much discussion in recent months.  However, not all the information that’s reported by the media is correct, including the myth that sugar-sweetened beverages are the main source of added sugar in the American diet.

According to a recent data brief from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, food is the leading source of added sugar amongst children and teens.  In fact, because our member companies provide a wide variety of choices with fewer calories and in smaller sizes, there was a 23 percent reduction in the average calories per serving from beverages sold between 1998 and 2010.
