You might have read recently a column or two from critics of our industry that wrongly suggest a tax on certain beverages is a way for our country to deal with major societal issues like obesity.  Since when has a tax ever made anyone healthier?  Common sense tells us – and science backs up - that it’s moderation in the diet and exercise that are essential to leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

But we recognize that we have a very important role to play in the conversation about these issues.  That’s why we are taking real action.  Our industry believes in meaningful solutions and helping consumers make the decision that is right for them.  Through our initiatives such as Clear on Calories, we’ve place clear calorie labels on the front of every can, pack and case we produce. And in schools, we’ve voluntarily removed all full-calorie soft drinks and replaced them with more low and no calorie options. Through our School Beverage Guidelines, we’ve reduced beverage calories shipped to schools by 90 percent.
