America’s beverage companies know that parents are constantly looking for ways to reduce the sugar in their family’s diet and that is just as important in their home as it is when their children return to the classroom.

That’s why more than a decade ago we launched our School Beverage Guidelines which voluntarily removed full-calorie sodas shipped to schools and replaced them with more lower-calorie and smaller-portion choices. This voluntary step by beverage companies later helped form the basis of the beverage component of USDA’s regulations for foods and beverages sold in schools.

We delivered on our commitment. We reduced beverage calories shipped to schools by 90% between 2004 and the 2009-2010 school year.
