Today we are throwing it way back to September 23, 2014 when America's leading beverage companies, in partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, announced a landmark agreement to decrease beverage calories in the American diet. At the 2014 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York City, beverage industry executives were joined by President Bill Clinton, founder of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, in announcing a goal to reduce beverage calories consumed per person nationally by 20 percent by 2025.

This announcement marked the beginning of the single-largest voluntary effort by an industry to help fight obesity, which ultimately has transformed the beverage landscape in America. America's beverage companies have been using their marketing, innovation and distribution strengths at the national level as well as focusing on certain communities where there has been less interest in and/or access to options that help with calorie reduction. By providing more choices with less sugar than ever before and in smaller portion sizes, consumers are able to make the right choices for their families.
