It’s days like this - when we read a superb report on why taxes won’t work to make people healthy - that we feel even more justified in our position.  Over the past few years, we’ve been explaining the importance of a comprehensive approach to tackling obesity and other health issues that may arise from being overweight.  And, as this column in Forbes states:

“The case for taxing sugar-sweetened drinks to curb obesity, which is being enthusiastically advanced by some of the country’s most prominent public health experts, wildly overestimates weight loss, according to two new studies published in leading academic journals.”

Once again, we know that the key to maintaining a healthy weight is balancing calories consumed with those expended through physical activity and exercise.  Taxes just won’t make people healthier.
