Neely talked about the beverage industry’s voluntary effort to remove full calorie soft drinks from schools more than 10 years ago. “We started with the schools a number of years ago and listened to moms and dads who had kids in school, K through 12, and did what they told us which was to change the beverage mix in schools, give the kids choices but take the calories out,” she told Spectrum News. “That resulted in 90 percent reduction in beverage calories that were being sold in schools.”

Neely also discussed the clear and easy-to-use calorie information voluntarily displayed on every can, bottle and pack we produce to help people make informed choices. “So, look to the label so you’ll know what’s in there and that will help you make the choice that’s right for you.”
