For the past week, we've been opining about the sensationalized "science news cycle," about the lack of science or common sense behind activists who single out soft drinks for taxation and about all the complex factors that contribute to one's weight and any obesity.

Scouring the Internet this morning, we came across this column by Kathy Warwick, a registered dietitian from Jackson, Mississippi. The column was published in The Clarion-Ledger and it's chock full of common sense advice from an expert.

We particularly like her caution to readers to understand that an "association" between two factors is merely an observation by the researcher. It is not a scientifically supported direct cause or link.

Check out her column and take it from a pro.
