Given recent developments in New York City, we here at Sip & Savor think it’s safe to say that our industry is not very popular in the eyes of Mayor Bloomberg and his Board of Health. However, for some other important fixtures in New York City, soda is still very much in vogue.

In the very same week that Mayor Bloomberg’s Board of Health voted to ban the sale of soft drinks larger than 16 ounces, soda was also in the spotlight, quite literally, on the other side of town. During the semi-annual New York Fashion Week, designers showcased heavily embellished dresses adorned in diamonds, beads, crystals and… soda caps! According to New York Magazine, fashion designer Alessandro Dell'Acqua’s models strutted their stuff on the runway decorated from head to toe in soda bottle tops and tabs. From one innovative industry to another, we certainly appreciate the support and applaud all creative means of recycling and re-using our packaging.
