If you are like us and the millions of others who regularly check in with “The Drudge Report,” then it’s likely that you saw this morning’s banner which read “NYC Mulls Limits on Milk, Popcorn.”

We’ve recently written a couple of times about Mayor Bloomberg’s proposal to limit soft drink sizes in New York City to 16 ounces and why it is a ban too far. We’ve also written about the hypocrisy some in government display when trying to aggressively push for these discriminatory and short-sighted measures.  As such, we couldn’t help but click through to see to what story Mr. Drudge had linked.

Turns out that MyFoxNY.com had reported on yesterday’s New York City Board of Health hearing, where a number of board members questioned the effectiveness of the Bloomberg proposal.  From the article:

“The board hand-picked by Mayor Michael Bloomberg that must approve his ban of selling large sugar-filled drinks at restaurants might be looking at other targets…At the meeting, some of the members of board said they should be considering other limits on high-calorie foods…One member, Bruce Vladeck, thinks limiting the sizes for movie theater popcorn should be considered.  Another board member thinks milk drinks should fall under the size limits.”

These board members highlight an important issue – why does Bloomberg single out soda?

But, really?  They want to expand the proposed ban that is already going too far.  Where does it end?

As one astute reader commented: “Wow. New York is starting to make California look normal.”

People don’t want government telling them what to eat or drink.  New Yorkers are smart enough to make their own choices.
