Not all plastic is the same. America’s beverage companies are carefully designing our plastic bottles out of polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, which is a clear, strong, lightweight and 100% recyclable plastic.

The Encyclopedia Britannica notes that PET is “the most widely recycled plastic,” and “when collected in a suitably pure state, PET can be recycled into its original uses.”

America’s leading beverage companies have come together to reduce their use of new plastic through the Every Bottle Back initiative. In partnership with preeminent environmental and sustainability leaders – World Wildlife Fund, The Recycling Partnership and Closed Loop Partners – they’re working to get every bottle back so they can be turned into new plastic bottles, and not end up in places they don’t belong, such as waterways, beaches or landfills.

So look for the PET code number 1 on your favorite beverage, and after finishing, place the cap back on and be sure to recycle it. And for more on how the beverage industry is working to get every bottle back visit www.EveryBottleBack.org
