Mayor Greg Fischer is recognizing a Louisville, Ky., favorite by proclaiming today Big Red Day in the city. Local television station WHAS said Big Red has “been a staple of Louisville culture for nearly 80 years.”  

The mayor’s proclamation marks the anniversary of the soft drink being distributed in Louisville and the official kick-off of barbecue season because Louisville residents love drinking Big Red with their barbecue.
