From coast to coast, students will be stepping out from behind their desks to participate in National Physical Education and Sport Week.  According to a news release from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), more than 3 million students from more than 4,500 schools will rev up their physical activity as Let's Move in School  — a national initiative to boost physical activity before, during and after school — celebrates this week.

Today, some 148,000 Philadelphia students are expected to join the Beyoncé "Let's Move! Flash Workout" and some 32,000 Miami-Dade County Public School students will follow suit tomorrow. On Wednesday, physical education teacher Peggy Chappuis and her Eastgate Elementary School students in East Helena, Mont., will go high tech - Skyping her "Morning Moves" workout to teacher Lana Peterson-Pressler and her students at Rousseau Elementary School in Lincoln, Neb.   Rounding out the week, are a community walk-a-thon in Port Matilda, Pa., and a Kansas Kids Fitness Day in Wichita.

These are just a few of the events that will take place in schools this week during the AAHPERD campaign.  AAHPERD’s Let's Move in School initiative brings together national and state associations, as well as federal and corporate partners.  The American Beverage Association is proud to be among the sponsors.

And we at Sip & Savor are rooting for all those students who are striving to meet the challenge of at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day – after all, physical activity is a key component to maintaining a healthy weight.
