America’s beverage companies are committed to building a sustainable future for generations to come. Working toward this widely shared goal means reducing the use of new plastic entering the environment.

Last October, in coordination with environmental leaders World Wildlife Fund, The Recycling Partnership and Closed Loop Partners, the American Beverage Association and it’s leading beverage companies – The Coca Cola Company, Keurig Dr Pepper and PepsiCo – announced a breakthrough initiative to decrease its use of plastic by increasing the collection of its valuable bottles.

The initiative, Every Bottle Back, raises awareness about the value of its 100% recyclable bottles and invests in communities to increase the collection of bottles so that our bottles can be remade into new bottles, as intended.

Already, we’ve marshaled investments in three communities – the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Kenosha, Wis.  Scrap recently highlighted the components of our investments in Oklahoma and Wisconsin.  From the piece:

“Every Bottle Back will invest $390,500 to launch a curbside recycling program in Broken Arrow, which the ABA expects to reach at least 25,000 households. Every Bottle Back will provide residents with carts and educational material to help them correctly recycle. It expects the expansion will allow haulers to recover an estimated 124 million pounds of recyclable material over the next 10 years, the ABA says.

In Kenosha, the program will invest $520,000 to help households convert from a recycling system using plastic bags to the use of 96-gallon curbside carts and trucks with automated arms for lifting and dumping the carts. The investment will reach 320,000 households and yield an expected recovery of 54 million pounds of recyclables over 10 years, the ABA says.

The ABA launched Every Bottle Back in October 2019 with industry partners that include The Coca Cola Co., Keurig Dr Pepper, PepsiCo and recycling stakeholders including The Recycling Partnership (Falls Church, Va.) and Closed Loop Partners (New York). It works to increase the recovery and reuse of recycled plastic through awareness campaigns, investments in local recycling programs, and other strategies.”
