While National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month is coming to a close, we here at Sip & Savor encourage all of readers to continue to spread news and information on this very important issue to family, friends and colleagues.  We agree that our society needs to come together – government, industry, teachers, consumers and parents – to address complex health issues like childhood obesity.

That’s why the beverage industry is taking bold action.  According to research published in the American Journal of Public Health, the beverage industry successfully drove a 90 percent reduction in beverage calories shipped to schools between 2004 and the end of the 2009-2010 school year through the School Beverage Guidelines.  Working with President Clinton, we removed full-calorie soft drinks from all schools and replaced them with more lower-calorie, smaller-portion options in age-appropriate portion sizes.

Check back with us for more information on this and other great beverage industry initiatives.  And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
