According to the Institute of Education Sciences an estimated 49.8 million students will be heading back to school this fall.  Some of these students will be exploring an entirely new school this week while others are returning to familiar faces, classrooms and old hang outs.  What students across the country will have in common is the diverse beverage mix they have available in their schools.

Through our School Beverage Guidelines, we removed full-calorie soft drinks from all schools, replaced them with more lower-calorie, smaller-portion options and successfully changed the beverage landscape in schools across the country.  As a result, the beverage mix in schools continues to shift to waters, portion-controlled sports drinks, diet drinks and 100 percent juices.
