New Data Shows Generational Impact of Uniquely American Industry, Employing 275,000 Americans and Supporting 4.5 Million Jobs Nationwide

WASHINGTON – For nearly 150 years, America’s beverage companies have been an integral part of the nation’s fabric – woven into our hometowns, powering our economy and bringing people together. American Beverage released new economic impact data today underscoring this enduring economic impact, showing that the beverage industry:

  • Generates $324 billion in direct economic impact.

  • Operates more than 4,000 manufacturing, sales and distribution facilities.

  • Contributes more than $70 billion in state and federal taxes.

  • Supports more than 4.5 million jobs including 275,000 direct employees.

  • Provides more than $30 billion in wages and benefits to hardworking American men and women.

  • Contribute $2.8 billion to charitable causes nationwide.

"When it comes to building a stronger America, we are always hard at work. It’s what our companies do every day,” said Kevin Keane, President and CEO of American Beverage. “Behind every bottle or can of your favorite beverage are American workers – truck drivers, plant operators, sales teams – who help bring our products to communities across the country. We are American companies, making American products with American workers in America's hometowns – and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.”

America’s beverage companies directly employ 275,000 Americans with good-paying, family-supporting jobs and support another 4.2 million across our value chain in the services, retail, manufacturing, transport and agriculture sectors.

This is the spirit behind American Beverage’s new “We Deliver for America” campaign – a celebration of the people, values and communities that define the beverage industry. Whether it’s a family-owned distributor or one of the country’s most beloved brands, beverage companies have long embodied American ideals of innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Our beverages – enjoyed on special occasions and everyday moments – are made in America by local bottlers and manufacturers. Generational, family businesses are the foundation of America’s beverage industry. We are engrained in our communities and part of the great American story. We live here, work here and are committed to helping our hometowns thrive,” added Keane.

Beyond creating jobs and economic opportunities, our bottlers and brands are an integral part of their communities. Beverage companies, distributors and employees contribute $2.8 billion annually to charitable causes nationwide, supporting education, environmental initiatives, disaster relief, local development programs and so much more.
